2018 Colorado Forest Industry's Annual Legislative Reception

The Colorado Timber Industry Association, The Mountain States Lumber and Building Material Dealers Association, Healthy Forests, Healthy Communities, And the Colorado / Wyoming Society of American Foresters

  • Date: February 6, 2018
  • Time: 5 - 7 PM
  • City Grille - 321 East Colfax
  • Denver, CO
  • Coordinator: Molly Pitts (CTIA) - 928-521-9476

Over the past decade, catastrophic bark beetle epidemics and fires have and continue to devastate Colorado’s forests. These events affect our mountain communities as well as our forests, tourism, recreation, wildlife, and water supplies. Recognizing the need to be part of the solution, forest products companies in Colorado have invested over $100 million since 2012 to increase logging and processing capacity. Additionally, retail businesses have changed practices to utilize Colorado incentives to use bark beetle lumber and wood products of all types.

With very little moisture this winter and the threat of a catastrophic wildfire season, we welcome the opportunity to discuss these important issues with our Colorado legislators. Come learn about what is impacting our forests and what can be done to protect them from wildfire and insects and disease. We invite you to share hors d’ouevres and beverages and to meet the foresters, business owners, and timber processors who work in the forest, remove and process burned and beetle-killed trees, and ultimately sell the finished wood products-lumber, furniture, mulch, etc. Nearly 68% of our forested acres are managed by the federal government, with input from Coloradoans! Our legislators are invaluable partners and advocates with both the federal government and our local governments that must address the public health and safety issues that accompany changing forest health conditions.

With respect to Amendment 41, the complimentary tickets for refreshments have a value of approximately $16 per person.
